How to prepare bruschette |

|
|
Bruschette is an Italian dish that is delicious and easy to prepare. Essentially, it consists of slices of bread with a topping that can vary, but is most commonly tomato-based. To make great bruschette, it is important to start with great bread. You may choose a loaf of French bread, if that is what's available, but if possible try to get a nice hearty Italian loaf to make this dish more authentic.
The first step is to toast the bread. You may put the slices of bread on a metal tray, and toast them in the oven, but for a really nice flavor it is much better to toast them on your outdoor grill. Once they are toasted, you should take a clove of garlic that has been sliced in half, and rub garlic all over the surface of the toasted bread. Next, drizzle it with a little bit of olive oil.
Now it is time for the toppings. A traditional topping for bruschette consists of tomatoes and basil, seasoned with a little bit of salt and pepper. You may create a more unique dish by using sauted mushrooms or peppers as a topping for your bruschette. Or cut thin slices of Italian meats like Volpi salami to accompany the tomatoes. Some people also like to melt cheese on the top, and while this is not strictly authentic, it does add a nice touch.
Bruchette is most usually served as an appetizer for a nice Italian meal. It is quick and easy to make, and liked by most people. If you are lucky enough to have some fresh in-season tomatoes, you can make a truly spectacular dish that everyone will enjoy.
