The difference between brewing coffee and espresso

While coffee and espresso are both delicious ways to start a day or end a meal, there are some subtle differences between these two types of drinks.  The following article will explain how to prepare each.

Brewed coffee takes longer to make. Pour grounded coffee beans into a coffee filter, and then place it in your coffee machine. A general guideline is 1 to 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every six ounces of water, depending on how strong you like your coffee.  A pot of brewed coffee usually takes about five minutes to make, and when it is finished you can pour it into a coffee mug, adding sugar or creamer if you like.  Wait for the brewed coffee to cool a little bit and then enjoy it. A full pot should be enough for an entire family or office full of people.

Espresso coffee is just like its name. It is made pretty fast, with less water, and is dark, rich and thick. Also it’s very strong.  An espresso machine will have you pack the coffee grinds (best freshly ground) into the filter basket, then attach it to the machine, where highly pressurized water is filtered through the coffee grinds.  It will take about 30 seconds, resulting in a smaller “shot” of espresso.  While many Italians drink espresso plain, others will add cream, sugar or cinnamon.

The ultimate difference between brewed coffee and espresso is the time it takes to make and the strength and size of the drink. Espresso is quicker to make and uses less water, and many Italians would argue it's much better quality.  Whichever drink you prefer, use the finest roasted coffee beans for a wonderful and authentic flavor.
